The Airbus A300 is a transport aircraft manufactured by Airbus from 1969 to 2007. It is intended for short and medium distances. The Airbus A300B prototype took off in 1972. It was equipped with two P&W JT9D-59 (Pratt & Whitney) or GE CF6-50C (General Electric) twin-jet engines. The width of the fuselage is 5.64 m and the wingspan is 44.84 m. The length and capacity is different for individual types. Capacity varies from 225 passengers (A300B1) to 345 passengers (A300-600). In March 2006, Airbus announced that it would end production of the A300 by July 2007.
In September 1967, aircraft manufacturers in the United Kingdom, France and West Germany signed the first memorandum of understanding to cooperate in the development of an innovative large transport aircraft. West Germany and France reached a firm agreement on 29 May 1969 after the British withdrew from the project on 10 April 1969. On December 18, 1970, the pan-European cooperating manufacturer of aircraft technology Airbus Industrie was formally created for its development and production. The A300 prototype took off for the first time on October 28, 1972.
