When performing the task of escort and air superiority that they were originally designed for the Bf-110 Zerstorers “Destroyers” were very good against Poland and the Scandinavian countries early in WWII. But once they were put into this role during the Battle of Britain and came up against the much faster and more agile Hurricanes and Spitfires the Bf-110 suffered tremendous losses. They were withdrawn from this and found their calling as night fighters that inflicted large losses on the British bombers that were unescorted.

In March 1945 4./NJG3 was formed with the purpose of intercepting Allied aircraft over Scandinavia but it only functioned for a couple of months. On May 8, 1945 the final function of the unit was evacuating German officers from the area. Aircraft Wr.Nr.110087 B4+KA was crewed by pilot Fw. Kurt Keilig, radio operator Fw. Kurt Schroter and mechanic Uffz. Karl Stamminger. This aircraft wasn’t used in the evacuation because at the end of the war it was found in Kjevik Norway.
