The Fortschritt E 517 is a grain combine harvester produced in the GDR and later in the united G
ermany from 1988 to 1990. After the privatization of the production company, this combine was given the designation MDW Fortschritt E-517.
It was also imported to Czechoslovakia. It was the successor of the E516 machine and had a 40% larger grain harvesting area compared to its predecessor, which meant faster harvesting and less fuel consumption. Its new functions include: cleaning sieves with an area of 5.14 m 2 instead of the previous 4.5 m 2 , which reduced grain losses by up to 30%. The grain hopper has a capacity of 4.5 m 3 to 5.5 m 3 where the capacity was increased by the top of the grain hopper.
The total length of the machine is 869 cm, the total width is 720 cm, and the total height with the cabin is 395 cm. The combine with the cabin weighs 11400 kg
The combine had an 8-cylinder 8VD 14.5/12.5-1 SRW engine with a volume of 14.25 and a power of 228 hp, which was manufactured by the Schönebeck company. The tank had a capacity of 400L. Diesel consumption was 35-70 l/h depending on the load of the combine and the slope of the field during harvesting.
