In 1968 BMW introduced a completely new 4-door sedan, known as the E3 series. Initially there were two engines: 2500cc (from 1968 to 1977) and 2800cc (from 1968 to 1975). But from 1971 an even more interesting model came out, equipped with the 3000cc engine that gave life to the 3.0S and 3.0Si versions, both in production until 1977. The E3 Series was also produced in the "L" (Limousine) configuration, with an extended wheelbase and displacements of 2800cc, 3000cc and 3200cc. For the Ls, production ceased in 1977, too.
