Alaska Airlines was one of the first operators of the 727. Between 1966 and 1994, there were at least 61 aircraft in the fleet. In 1972, the airline began a major rebrand to emphasize Alaska's cultural diversity: an Eskimo, a gold digger commemorating the gold rush, Russian onion domes honoring Russian history in the region, and last but not least, a totem pole representing the culture. which was meant to symbolize the indigenous people.
