The 737-800 was a lengthened version of the 737-700 launched on 5 September 1994. The -800 has a capacity of 162 passengers in two-class or 189 passengers in a high-density single-class configuration. Hapag-Lloyd Flug (now TUIfly) received its first customer in April 1998. The -800 directly replaced the -400 and the aging 727-200 of American Airlines.
