This year's Herpa Wings Christmas model combines two anniversaries into one retro look: On the one hand, the design recalls the "candy bombers" of the Berlin Airlift, which ended 75 years ago. After the USSR cut off land and water access to the western sectors of Berlin from 26 June 1948 to 30 September 1949 in what was later East Germany, these were supplied with essential materials by air by Western Allied aircraft. To reflect the design of the Douglas C-54 Skymaster that was primarily used, the model does not appear in the black base color commonly used for Christmas models, but in silver. On the other hand, Herpa is also celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. So we integrated the logos used in the past into the design and finally gave the plane a bit of a Christmassy feel to round things off.
