The 36th Airborne Command and Control Wing operates all four E-3 Sentry early warning and control systems (AWACS) that serve the French Air and Space Forces. Each of these aircraft has the traditional emblem of the former squadrons of the French Air Force on its tail. The aircraft with the serial number 36-CB is named in honor of the BR 43 "Charognard" ("vulture"), one of the oldest French squadrons, which was created back in 1918. This same aircraft also commemorates two anniversaries in one: In 2022, the Armee de l’Air celebrated not only the 36th anniversary of the modernization of the W. 1932 from the Air Observation Group. The year 2022 also marked the 30th anniversary of the E-3 Sentry entering French service.
