The introduction of the Douglas DC-4 enabled numerous companies to open up new destinations in the period of reconstruction after the end of World War II. With the delivery of the first DC-4 75 years ago, Air France was able to start the Paris-New York connection for the first time in 1946. The four-engine machine completed the route with two refueling stops in Shannon, Ireland and Gander, Canada in just under 20 hours.
