The 641 was a uprated version of the 1989 Ferrari 640, designed by John Barnard. The 641 was developed by former McLaren designer Steve Nichols after Barnard left Ferrari to join the Benetton team. Ferrari clinched six wins in the 1990 season (Prost 5 times, Mansell one win). Ferrari's major market success was signing reigning World Champion Alain Prost from McLaren to partner Nigel Mansell. Prost contented the title to Senna until the very end of the season, loosing the battle amidst much controversy.
