Ferrari's new supercar, christened the F50, appeared at the 1995 Geneva Motor Show. The car, equipped with a 4.7-liter, 520-horsepower V12 engine, bore many similarities to Formula 1s and was considered the point of the highest meeting between a racing car and a road car. The characteristics of the F50 prompted Ferrari to develop a competition version for the BPR championship. The car, however, never took to the track. The road going F50, jewel of the Pininfarina style, remained in production until 1997 with a total of 349 units built.
