On November 24, 1955, PH-NIV took off for its maiden flight. Designed as the successor to the tried-and-tested, but old Douglas DC-3, the Fokker 27 quickly became a success for the Dutch manufacturer. A total of around 600 copies of the "Friendship" were produced, which were used in almost every corner of the world for civil and military purposes.
