Ford has revived the Boss 302 nameplate for 2012. The standard 5.0L Coyote V8 engine in the 2011 Ford Mustang GT has been upgraded with a forged crankshaft, CNC ported heads, revised camshafts, and a high-flow "runners-in-a-box" intake taken from 302R. racing car. It came with an MT-82 6-speed manual transmission and a solid rear axle with a 3.73:1 carbon fiber limited-slip differential; a Torsen differential was available as an option. The quad exhaust system consisted of two standard Mustang GT outlets and two side pipes that exited on either side of the rear crossover. The side pipes routed the exhaust through removable metal "muffler" discs to amplify the exhaust note.
