In 1986, Libya's then-in-charge, Gaddafi, threatened to shoot down all enemy planes that would cross the so-called "death line", a unilaterally claimed border of Libyan territorial waters and airspace. In March 1986 the conflict escalated and there were several threatening air encounters. In one of these encounters, two Libyan MiG-25 intercepted two "Tomcats" of the VF-33 season.
