Hamm AG is a German global manufacturer and marketer of road rollers based in Tirschenreuth, Germany. It is a subsidiary of the Wirtgen Group.
Brothers Anton and Franz Hamm, who were gunsmiths, founded the company in 1878 to manufacture agricultural equipment. The company built its first diesel-powered road roller in 1911, designed by second-generation Hamm, Hans Hamm. This was at a time when most cylinders were powered by steam. In 1928, the company abandoned all other product lines and concentrated on road rollers. Hamm produces the first all-wheel drive with double-drum all-wheel steering. The company introduced all-wheel steering and the all-wheel-drive rubber roller in 1963, and then in 1989 introduced its oscillating vibration roller.
