Founded in 1929, Cubana is one of the oldest commercial airlines in Latin America.After the Cuban Revolution under Fidel Castro, the airline turned to the Soviet Union to equip and modernize its fleet.Since 1977, Cuba has used at least 27 four-engine IL-62s on its long-haul routes.Some were even overhauled at the turn of the millennium and were in service until 2011. The original of this model, designated CU-T1218, was manufactured and delivered in 1980. The model also appears in a color version from that period.
