In 1944, Douglas C-47 of the 62nd Squadron soldied hundreds of soldiers as part of Operation Neptune to build a bridgehead in Normandy. 75 years later, two Hercules vans from the same unit took part in the anniversary celebrations on and over the French coast. For this reason, the C-130J with the registration 14-5802 was provided with "invasion stripes" on the fuselage and wings, as a majority of the Allied aircraft wore on and after D-Day.
