To counter the decline in sales of the Mercedes-Benz Unimog in the agricultural market in the mid-1960s, Daimler-Benz decided in 1967 to develop its own line of tractors based on existing Unimog components. The result of this effort was the MB Trac 65/70 introduced in 1972 where the 65/70 designation stood for 65 DIN or 70 SAE-hp. The MB Trac 1800 Intercooler, manufactured until 1991, represented the absolute flagship of this line. 190 units of this 180-horsepower vehicle equipped with a 6-liter six-cylinder diesel engine were produced at the Unimog factory in Gaggenau.
