The MiG-29 is a fourth-generation twin-engine supersonic jet fighter developed in
The Soviet Union in the 1970s. The aircraft entered the service of the Soviet Air Force in 1983 and
it is still in use with them and over the years has been equipped by over twenty-four other countries. The
The NATO designation for the MiG-29 is Fulcrum and it was designed to counter the American F-16
and the F-18. The MiG-29 was first seen in the West in 1986. The MiG-29 (9-13) is designated as
Fulcrum C.


In 1989, the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) entered into a contract to purchase 20 MiG-29s; 14
MiG-29A and 6 Mig-29UB for the 11th TFS. The newly created Islamic Revolutionary Guards
the Corps Air Force was to receive 16 MiG-21s from East Germany, but this did not happen.
another 11 MiG-29As were purchased. In January 1991 as a result of Operation Desert Storm
144 Iraqi aircraft fled to Iran, including 4 MiG-29As. MiG-29 3-6133 of the Iraqi 6th squadron
