Peterbilt Motors Company is an American truck manufacturer specializing in the production of heavy (Class 8) and medium-duty (Class 5–7) commercial vehicles. The namesake of the company's founder, T. A. "Al" Peterman, was founded in 1939 by the acquisition of the Fageol Truck and Motor Company and has operated as part of PACCAR since 1958. It competes alongside its sister division, Kenworth Truck Company, and maintains one of the longest-running market rivalries in American truck manufacturing.
Peterbilt trucks are identified by a red oval badge that has been used since 1953. Since 1965, a "bird's-eye" style hood ornament has also been used on conventional cab trucks.
