From November 1969, Australia sent six PC-6s to its main base in Nui Dat (translated "mound of the earth"), which had been built since 1996, to strengthen its troop presence in South Vietnam. The use was very diverse and ranged from transport services to airspace surveillance, reconnaissance, target detection for artillery and the release of leaflets. After the withdrawal of the Australian troops from Vietnam from the end of 1971, the "Porter" still reliably served in the army until 1992.
