In the 1970s and 1980s, the Škoda Estelle was an unlikely hero of the rally world. The Škoda Motorsport factory team has won in its class for 17 years at the RAC Rally and has also won class victories in many other world and European championships. Many of the team's drivers were selected from among the company's employees, although foreign professionals also drove for Škoda, notably Norwegian driver John Haugland.
