Škoda 706 was a designation for utility vehicles that had been produced by the Škoda plant since the 1930s. Production took place in many enterprises and lasted an incredible 50 years, during which there were many technical changes and improvements. The last vehicles of the Škoda 706 MT series were produced in 1988 at the company LIAZ Jablonec nad Nisou.

Each car manufacturer has its own car marking system, and ASAP Mladá Boleslav (Skoda) coded the names with a three-digit numerical designation. The first two digits expressed the carrying capacity of the chassis in metric cents (100 kg), the third digit the number of engine cylinders. Škoda 706 thus designates a vehicle with a load capacity of 7 tons and a 6-cylinder engine. Additional letters indicated the type of model line and chassis.
