Interesting facts about the vehicle:
This "off-road", or the conceptual predecessor of the Škoda Yeti or today's Kodiaq, was created between 1966 and 1972 in New Zealand. Assembly was provided by the general importer of the Motor Industries International brand, based in Otahuhu. It was his initiative that gave rise to the idea for the production of a cheap and practical field model for farmers and craftsmen.
The Trekka was built on the Octavia chassis. It was even developed directly by Škoda engineers in New Zealand. Josef Velebný, head of bodywork development at the time, traveled to New Zealand, by the way, a Slovak and a native of Pukanec. Together with the New Zealand designer, then more of a coachbuilder, George Taylor, they designed the Trekka. They used a shortened Octavia Super chassis, with independent suspension of all wheels and a rigid backbone frame, which had a more powerful 4-cylinder under the hood with a volume of 1,221 cc and a power of 32 kW. The designers shortened the wheelbase from 2,398 to 2,165 mm. The permanent gear was also changed from 4.78 to 5.25.
