The Supermarine Spitfire MK IXC was a British World War II single-seat fighter aircraft. It was developed for the Royal Air Force (RAF) in response to the Luftwaffe threat during the Battle of Britain.
This particular aircraft was piloted by French fighter ace Pierre Closterman of No. 602 Squadron RAF in July 1944. It was armed with four 20 mm cannon and two 7.7 mm machine guns and was powered by a British Rolls-Royce Merlin 66 engine producing 1,585 hp.
The Spitfire MK IXC was characterized by high speed and agility in combat. It was successful in dogfights during World War II and was the aircraft of choice for many fighter aces.
