Aviogenex was founded in 1968 as a charter airline bringing sun seekers from Western Europe to Yugoslavia with a focus on Germany and Great Britain. Between 1946 and 1992, the city of Podgorica, now the capital of the Republic of Montenegro, was renamed in honor of Yugoslav President Josip Tito.
