The “Huey”, or UH-1 Iroquois is a multi-purpose helicopter famed for its service during the Vietnam War era. The UH-1D is a long bodied version of the Huey, modified to accommodate both the helicopter’s crew and an attachment of up to 10 soldiers. The craft could also carry up to half a dozen stretchers in its cabin --- which, in the deadly jungle battlescapes of Vietnam, made it indispensable in the evacuation of the wounded.
