Due to the Covid pandemic, Lufthansa has grounded all Airbus A380s. Due to a strong recovery in demand as well as ongoing delays with the Boeing 777-9, Germany's largest airline has now decided to reactivate at least six of its eight remaining super-jumbos. On June 1, 2023, D-AIMK became the first aircraft to return to regularly scheduled service, initially on the Munich-Boston route. Three double-deckers will soon follow; Two more A380s are then due to roll out of long-term storage and enter service in 2024.
