The Chevrolet Corvette (C3) is the third generation of the Corvette automobile produced by Chevrolet between 1967 and 1982. The engines and chassis components were mostly carried over from the previous generation, but the body and interior were new. 1972 was the last model year for the chrome bumpers front and rear, vacuum-operated retractable windshield wipers, as well as the removable rear window common to all 1968-72 coupes. A key-activated anti-theft alarm system has become standard. The increasingly popular automatic transmission option was installed on most Corvettes for the first time, with nearly 54 percent so equipped. This year, the SAE net horsepower measurement (different from the previous SAE gross standard) was now used and was largely responsible for the much lower engine power figures.
