The Grumman EA-6 Prowler is a military aircraft developed in the USA in the 1960s. Its main purpose is electronic warfare support (Electronic Warfare, EW) and dominance over the electromagnetic spectrum in combat situations.
The Prowler was designed as a modification of the Grumman A-6 Intruder and first flew in 1968. The main difference between the Intruder and the Prowler is the additional electronic systems that allow the Prowler to detect, analyze, and jam enemy electronic systems.
The Prowler has two pilots and two electronic operators. It is equipped with various sensors, including radar, which allow the crew to detect the presence and location of enemy communications and radar systems. It can then use its own systems to jam and destroy those targets.
Over the course of its existence, the Prowler has become a key element of US military operations, including operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Currently, it is gradually being replaced by newer types of aircraft, such as the Boeing EA-18G Growler.
