The MiG-21MF (NATO code Fishbed - meaning "lying fish") is a Soviet combat, interceptor, single-engine, jet, single-seat, supersonic, fighter aircraft. It is of all-metal construction; a mid-wing aircraft with a delta wing, a floating stabilizer with a swept tail, with a three-point retractable landing gear of the frontal type. The aircraft is powered by a Tumansky R-13-300 aviation turbocompressor, single-jet, twin-shaft engine.
It was intended primarily for the destruction of air targets with guided and unguided weapons and for conducting aerial reconnaissance. It could also affect ground targets with unguided munitions. Given its equipment, the aircraft was intended for day and night combat operations and for operations conducted in difficult weather conditions. It has four suspension points on the wings for suspension of aerial ammunition with a total maximum weight of 1,300 kg. In the middle lower part of the fuselage is built a 23 mm double-barreled cannon GS-23L with a magazine for 200 rounds. In the rear part of the fuselage is mounted an ejector of signal rounds EKSR-46. On the under-fuselage beam the aircraft can have an additional fuel tank for 490 or 800 liters of fuel.
