The Spirit of California was the second operational B-2 and arrived at Whiteman Air Force Base on 17 August 1994. The 509th Squadron, the sole operator of the stealth bomber, is divided into four divisions, the 509th Maintenance, Mission Support, Medical and Operations Group. This last division is the flying component of the wing. As the lead aircraft of the 509th Operations Group, the abbreviated designation 509 OG was added to the landing gear door above the 50th Bombardment Wing's mission: Anytime, Anywhere.
