Quality metal model of police car AUDI 80 POLIZEI from 1979.
Audi redesigned the Model 80 based on the B2 (Type 81) platform in 1978 in Europe and in 1979 in North America. In Europe, the Audi 80 name continued to be used, but in North America, the Audi 4000/4000S name began to be used. The body design was created by Giorgetto Giugiaro. The vast majority of Audi 80 B2s were produced as four-doors, but a small number of two-door cars were produced. The Combi (Avant) was not produced, because at that time this market segment was occupied by the Volkswagen Passat.
In Australia, the Audi 5+5 model was launched in October 1981. It was a four-door sedan with a 5-cylinder engine with a volume of 2,144 cm³.
In 1984, the 80 model underwent modernization. The front part received headlights from the 100 model, the front and rear fenders were modified and the interior was modernized. After this modernization, the Audi 90 model appeared, which was essentially an Audi 80 with larger engines and richer equipment. A 51kW turbo diesel 1.6-litre engine was added for both models and 2 petrol engines were added for the 90, a 2.0-litre 85kW and a 100kW 2.2-litre which was later increased to 2 ,3 liters. The 2.2-liter engine was also offered with an exhaust gas catalyst, when its output was 85 kW with front-wheel drive and 88 kW with all-wheel drive.
For the European market, a front grille with single headlights was used, while in America, dual headlights were used.
The B2 platform proved to be versatile and advantageous – many components were shared or used from the Audi Coupe GT, Audi Quattro and Audi Sport Quattro models. These brought the company a good name after the quattro all-wheel drive proved itself in various races.
Sedans were offered until 1986 in Europe, a year longer in foreign markets. The Audi Coupé based on the B2 platform remained on sale until 1988.
